Welcome to our gallery
Founded by three local women artists, the Plane Tree Gallery is a collaborative space dedicated to showcasing the work of local and regional creatives. Located in the heart of Tumut, in the Snowy Valleys of NSW, the gallery provides a modern, sophisticated setting for artists to exhibit their work.
Situated on the main street and within walking distance of cafés, accommodation, and well-known local businesses, the gallery features a diverse range of works, including painting, photography, ceramics, woodwork, jewellery, and textile art.
The founders, who also operate The Cotton Merchants next door, began this journey with a shared vision: to support and celebrate the creative community across the Snowy Mountains and Riverina districts by providing opportunities, connection, and inspiration.

The story behind the name
The name Plane Tree Gallery was inspired by the majestic plane tree that stands proudly outside the gallery's entrance. A beloved landmark on Tumut’s main street, this tree is not only a striking feature of the townscape but also a symbol of strength, creativity, and connection – qualities that reflect the spirit of the gallery itself. Its seasonal changes mirror the ever-evolving nature of the art within the space, offering a quiet reminder of growth, renewal, and beauty in the everyday.
This natural icon also influenced the gallery’s branding, with its branching form and textured bark inspiring visual elements used in the gallery’s identity. Just as the plane tree offers shelter and a place to pause, the Plane Tree Gallery invites visitors to slow down, engage with local creativity, and feel rooted in the vibrant cultural life of the Snowy Valleys.
