David Preston is a contemporary Australian printmaker and painter celebrated for his evocative landscapes, figure studies, and still-life compositions. Born in Sydney in 1948, Preston developed his artistic foundation at the Julian Ashton Art School, one of Australia’s most respected institutions for traditional drawing and painting. His education was further enriched through mentorships with some of Australia’s most influential modern artists, including Brett Whiteley, John Olsen, and Charles Blackman.
Preston began exhibiting his work in 1974, launching a career that would soon bring him international recognition. Over the decades, his paintings, prints and large-scale linocuts have been showcased in galleries across Asia, Europe, North America and Australia.
Today, David Preston lives and creates in Uki, far north New South Wales, maintaining an active presence in Australia’s artistic landscape.
‘The Studio at Milthorpe’ is part of a private collection including other Prestons.
